Common Infumorph Brand Name(s)
Infumorph
Infumorph Side Effects
May cause constipation, lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness, stomach upset, nausea or flushing. If these symptoms persist or worsen, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop irregular heartbeat, anxiety or tremors. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
How To Use Infumorph
INFUMORPH: Before using INFUMORPH, inspect it for floating particles or discoloration. Do not use if you find either. Do not substitute this for other lower strength morphine injections. Pain medications work best in preventing pain before it occurs. Once the pain becomes intense, the medication is not as effective in relieving it. Use INFUMORPH exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not increase your dose, use it more frequently or use it for a longer period of time than prescribed because INFUMORPH can be habit-forming. Also, if used for an extended period of time, do not suddenly stop using INFUMORPH without your doctor's approval. Over time, INFUMORPH may not work as well. Consult your doctor if INFUMORPH is not relieving the pain sufficiently.
Infumorph Warning
Because this form of morphine is very powerful, it is not recommended for short-term pain relief. INFUMORPH should be given only under close medical supervision, especially for the first 24 hours following the first dose and when the reservoir is being refilled or manipulated. Do not substitute INFUMORPH for the less powerful versions of morphine. Serious overdose, even death, could occur.
Infumorph Uses
INFUMORPH is used for pain relief.
Infumorph Precautions
Tell your doctor if you have pre-existing liver disease, lung disease, asthma, colitis or other stomach problems, severe diarrhea, history of drug dependency and of any drug allergies. If your skin should accidently come into contact with this drug, remove the surrounding clothing and rinse affected area with water. Use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcohol consumption because it may add to the dizziness/drowsiness effects of INFUMORPH. INFUMORPH should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. INFUMORPH may be excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Infumorph Drug Interactions
Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including sedatives, tranquilizers, sleeping pills, other narcotic pain relievers, drugs for depression, phenothiazines, MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) or cimetidine. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
Infumorph Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include cold and clammy skin, slowed breathing, slowed heartbeat, drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, deep sleep, and loss of consciousness.
Infumorph Notes
To prevent constipation, increase your intake of fiber, drink plenty of water and exercise. Stool softeners may be helpful. Do not share INFUMORPH with others. It is against the law.
Missed Infumorph Dose
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use if it is almost time for the next dose. Instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
Infumorph Storage
Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
